Foundayo is the brand name of orforglipron, a daily GLP-1 tablet from Eli Lilly. On 15 October 2026, the CHMP, the EMA’s human medicines committee, recommended approval. This is not yet final EU approval. The medicine is not yet routinely available in the Netherlands.

Where does approval stand?
Status as of 19 October 2026. On 16 October, the EMA published the positive CHMP opinion adopted on 15 October for weight management and type 2 diabetes in adults. The European Commission decides on the marketing authorisation. A Dutch launch date, price and reimbursement have not yet been confirmed.

What is Foundayo and how does the pill work?
The active ingredient is orforglipron
Foundayo is the brand name of orforglipron. It activates the GLP-1 receptor, which plays a role in appetite and blood sugar regulation. Our medical information page covers the mechanism and research results in detail.
A daily tablet
Orforglipron is a small molecule rather than a peptide such as semaglutide. This allows a different tablet formulation. It remains a prescription medicine; taking a tablet still requires a medical assessment.
Alongside diet and exercise
The European recommendation concerns use alongside a healthy diet and physical activity. Any future treatment also requires support with habits and maintaining muscle mass. The pill does not replace this approach.
How is the Foundayo pill taken?
According to UK and US product information, Foundayo is taken daily with or without food. This differs from oral semaglutide, which must be taken on an empty stomach. For any future Dutch treatment, the final European leaflet and the doctor’s prescription will take precedence.

Foreign product information describes one tablet a day. A daily routine differs from a weekly injection. This is background information, not a personal dosing schedule.

With or without food
Foreign product information specifies no food or water restrictions. The 30-minute wait required for the Wegovy pill does not apply to orforglipron in that information.

Discuss other medicines
Orforglipron can interact with other medicines, including oral contraceptives. A doctor and pharmacist must review all medication before any future treatment begins.
Why do the intake instructions differ?
The Wegovy pill contains semaglutide, a peptide that needs an absorption enhancer. Orforglipron has a different molecular structure. Different substances and formulations have different instructions. Doses and intake instructions cannot be transferred between medicines.
The final European product information has not been published as of 19 October 2026. Do not change an existing treatment yourself.
Foundayo price, reimbursement and dosing
These are separate questions. A recommendation for approval does not establish Dutch treatment costs, insurance coverage or the prescribing instructions that will apply here.
What will Foundayo cost?
A Dutch price has not been confirmed. US or UK prices are not a Dutch price list. Potential support costs are also separate from a future medication price. We therefore do not quote a monthly Foundayo price yet.
Will Foundayo be reimbursed?
As of 19 October 2026, Dutch reimbursement has not been confirmed. European authorisation and reimbursement are separate decisions. Even after authorisation, questions may remain about eligible uses and insurance conditions.
What dose will the pill have?
The EMA opinion lists six tablet strengths from 0.8 to 17.2 mg. This is not a Dutch titration schedule. The final European product information and a doctor’s assessment will determine future prescribing. Research doses are not personal dosing advice.

Possible side effects of Foundayo
Tablets can also cause side effects. Research and foreign Foundayo product information mainly describe gastrointestinal symptoms. These can occur when starting treatment and increasing the dose, although experiences differ.

- diarrhoea or constipation
- vomiting
- abdominal pain
- heartburn or bloating
US product information also warns of serious risks, including pancreatitis, gallbladder problems and kidney injury due to dehydration. Contraindications and interactions apply. Seek medical advice immediately for severe persistent abdominal pain or serious symptoms.
Who is covered by the European Foundayo recommendation?
- Adults with a BMI of 30 or above
- Adults with a BMI of at least 27 and a weight-related condition
- Weight management alongside healthy eating and physical activity
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Plans to become pregnant
- An eating disorder
These are not complete prescribing criteria. The CHMP opinion also covers inadequately controlled type 2 diabetes in adults. A doctor assesses medical history, other medicines and contraindications. Final European product information is still pending.
